Barna GAA Notes Apr 12th

The Parish of Barna and all of the county of Galway, as they ,either awoke
from their nights sleep or were just making their way to work, on Holy Thurs
morn, were stunned, when they received the news on their mobiles from
friends or from Galway Bay FM’s Ollie Turner, that long time Barna resident
and former Galway hero from the three in a Row era, Enda Colleran, had
passed on during the night. Gentleman Enda, who was a most popular figure in
Barna GAA circles in his earlier days ,in the parish and, in most recent
times at Barna Golf Club. His time really had come way to soon as his health
and physical condition was the envy of every middle aged man who had the
pleasure of meeting him in person or merely seeing him in the flesh. Enda ,
who was a football hero and a model to all of us ,loved to meet GAA
followers and be reminiscent of past glories and always had time to sake
hands and converse with people who had seen him maybe only on TV but wished
to sake the hand of the man, who captained Galway to Three in a Row in 1966.
For me personally, I first met Enda, when he bought the Cup to my fathers
Clothing shop, Harry Geraghty’s in bishop St Tuam, to be placed in the well
decorated Galway front Window for a couple of weeks, for all of Tuam to
stand and stare at. All I can say is, Enda’s services most have been badly
needed elsewhere, by our creator, to do another football job in the next
life, as Enda did not seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere past the nearest
good golf course. The gathering of former GAA players and lovers from the
four provinces of Ireland to Barna Parish to honour your memory will never
be forgotten. The numbers of famous faces, who mingled with all of us at
Barna Golf club on both days of the funeral was amazing .On behalf of his
adopted Barna Parish and Barna GAA Football Club I wish to offer condolences
to his wife and family in their time of grieve. Enda, you are gone from us,
but never forgotten. Thank you for the memories and, until we meet again,
slan agus tog go bog e.
All Barna adult Games Senior V Milltown, Junior A V Na Pairsaig ( Rosmuc )
with the permission of the Galway fixtures and opposition Teams , have
called of these games so that all of us can be there to send Enda remains to
its place of rest.
A couple of weeks ago, I wished well to three players returning to the Barna
Jersey after a years absence, now I wish to good luck to three players who
have taken the years Visa and gone down under to Australia, namely Senior
players Niall Murray and Fiagra Geraghty and Junior A player from last year
Paul McCormack.
The Club wish well to our Youth Officer, the hard working John Connolly who
is standing for local elections for the Galway West region that takes in
parts Boleybeg and Rahoon from the Barna Football Club Catchment area.
The Lotto Jackpot was not won and now goes to 2,800 euro. However there were
six Match three winners. Next sundays draw will take place at the Twelve
pins
