Barna GAA Notes Jan 27th

Barna GAA Footbal Club held its AGM in the Cilin at the rear of Bearna Chuch
on Sunday January 18th. It was decided by the outgoing Committee, that a
mass would be held in memory of all deceased members of the club. Our
Spiritual Director Fr Sean O’Currain, an Inisheer Island born man provided
the service with a traditional music flair added, to the proceedings,
provided by Henry Geraghty, the Club PRO. The Cilin at Bearna Church is
ideal for such meetings which has full kitchen facilities, so the cup of tea
and biscuit was provided between the Mass and the AGM itself. The AGM for
the first time, showed a nice blend of male and female members in attendance
present since with the inauguration last spring of Ladies Football team in
the parish. Gay O’Brien the Club Chairman, addressed the meeting followed by
various Team Management reports for Adults male and female given by the
various Team managers present. John Connolly our Youth Officer provided a
detailed Juvenile report , highlighting that the silverware received this
year by the successful Under 10 Under 12 and Minor Teams. Gay had special
thank for the Senior Manager Martin McDermott, who lead the team back to Div
A football , once more. The female report was given by their Manager Gay
O’Brien, highlighted the success by his panel of Ladies, who with no prior
competitive experience whatsoever in 2003, brought the Club to two West
Board Finals and one County Semi Final in the junior grade.
The meeting progresses with the Secretary’s and Treasurers reports right
down to the Elections for 2004. The process of finding a new executive was
made easier, as it was announced that the majority of the Executive par the
Assistant Chairman ,had a week indicated prior to the AGM, that they were
prepared to return in force for another year, if elected. This was highly
applauded by all in attendance. Again the only role requiring election was
Asst Chairperson where Cosmo Gilmore stepped down and Bernie Conneely was
nominated and elected to that role. The only other non executive positions
requiring elections were the delegates to the various Boards and for the
committee at large. Two more females were added to the overall Committee
when Grainne , respectively.
The Adult Managers for 2004 are as follows, Senior Martin McDermott, Junior
A Tommy Flaherty Junior C Sean Oige Flaherty and Ladies Junior, Gay O’Brien.
WE welcome Sean Oige in this his first year managing an Adult team.
It was decided by John Connolly , Youth Officer, to delay the announcements
of all Juvenile Team Managers until the full panel is for 2004, is
completed.
Two motions were passed at the AGM. The first Motion was passed , stating
that no person , shall be allowed to line out in a competitive game for the
Club, if they have not paid their Annual Club Membership by March 15th. A
second motion was passed relating to the right of the Executive to call a
club member to a disciplinary hearing if that person, through their conduct,
has brought the club into repute.
