Ladies Junior Championship

The girls U14 team had a mixed week with two games played and one defeat and one win, the defeat came at home to a very strong St Marys team. Both teams are contesting second place in the league and this showed with some very good football played with both teams. St Mary’s started well and registered early scores before Barna responded with 1-1 scored by Ciara Lynagh, Eimear Kelly Greally scored a fine point from play and the half time score was 1-2 to 1-3 for the visitors. The second half was as close as the first and with some great saves from Caoimhe Slemon in goals kept the visitors to scoring points with Barna’s Caoimhe Faherty scoring a fine goal and another from Ciara left an exciting finish but St Marys held out to win by three points.
The second game was away to Caherlistrane and with 21 girls travelling ,showed great commitment and this showed on the field with a comprehensive win . The Barna girls led from the start and never looked back and some fine scores from Ciara Lynagh, Ruth Keady and Sarah Coyne gave the team a commanding lead. The defense was very solid with Sara Feeney leading the way assisted by Orna Cunningham and Saoirse Faherty. The win leaves the girls having won five games in the league with one game remaining against St Michaels.

The Junior Ladies took the pitch on Saturday evening against Claregalway in the League , with several regulars missing this was always going to be an uphill battle and this proved to be with Claregalway taking the game to Barna Girls and with some good scoring got into an early lead which they held onto till the final whistle.

The Ladies GAA would like to wish Fiona O’ Flaherty and Anthony Kilcoyne best wishes on their wedding day .
