The Barna seniors defeated St Brendans, Ballygar last Sunday in the opening round of the Galway Senior League on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-11. The match ended on cliffhanger with Barna leading by three when they conceded a penalty. However Galway minor panellists James Keane was on hand to save the save penalty in what was his senior debut.
Best for Barna were Aodhfin Grehan and Robbie Curran in the backs whilst DD Flaherty and Ciaran Hanley were impressive in the forwards.
The Seniors are playing Clonbur this coming Sunday at 2pm in Clonbur in the Comortas semi-final.
The U-16 girls faced Killanin last Monday in Barna pitch. Killanin needed a win to be in with a chance of reaching the League final. Killanin started well and scored some fine points. The Barna girls rallied and started to play some fine football with Sarah Cahill leading the way. Killanin had to play their best football and scored a well taken goal just before half time. Barna took control of the second half but some good defending kept them at bay until Katie Slemon scored a goal to give the girls some hope. Some great work from Ali Crean and Mairead Mc Avincey kept the ball supply to the forwards but with time running out Killanin kept the lead to the final whistle. All the Barna girls played well including the five subs who played their part in what was a close game.
