Seniors Qualify for Championship Semi Finals

The Barna seniors qualified for the semifinals of the Galway senior football championship for the first time in the clubs history when they overcame Annaghdown in Pearse Stadium last Saturday evening. This was the clubs third attempt at making the semifinals of the senior championship.

Annaghdown got off to a good start in this match taking two early points, however the Barna lads weren’t long getting into the stride of the match taking six unanswered points on the trot. Barna went in at the break with a three point advantage, when they came out after the break they rocked Annaghdown with 15 minutes of awesome football which saw them take their lead to ten points. Kieran Hanleys goal on 32 minutes brought a great cheer from the large number of club supporters present. In the dying minutes of the match Barna were given the fright of their lives when two goals were conceded to bring the match down to a two point ball game, the Barna defence stood up to the late challenge by snuffing out two late Annaghdown attacks. DD Flaherty who was been an immaculate free taker for the team all year converted the last free to give Barna a well deserved 1-13 to 2-7 victory.

It would be unfair to pick out any one individual display for merit as the whole team were excellent. Well done to the management team of Pat Fallon, Mike Lydon and Bert Curran on the excellent performance of their charges.

James Keane, John O’Toole, Eoin McDonagh (sub John Gannon), Paddy Naughton, Cormac Thornton, Robbie Curran, Aodhfin Grehan, Donal Feeney, Brian Conneely, Paddy Kennedy, DD Flaherty, Richie Carroll (sub Rob Creedon), John Clifford, Kieran Hanley, Ray Conneely

The club would like to thank all the supporters who came out and supported the team and also Larry Keating, Siobhan Quinn and Betty Kilbane who facilitated the clubs request to use the pitches at St Endas for the pre match warm up.

The seniors are out in action again this Saturday when they take on Kilkerrin/Clonberne in Clonberne on Saturday at 6.30.
