The Barna seniors face Corofin this coming Sunday in the semi finals of the Galway Senior Championship. The match has a four o’clock throw in time at Tuam Stadium. All club supporters are asked to come down to Tuam for the match.
The Barna seniors defeated Caherlistrane last Saturday evening in the senior league, the final score was Barna 1.16 Caherlistrane 1.12
The junior ladies narrowly missed out in a place in the championship final by a point to Menlough/ Skehana last week. Played in a neutral venue the Barna girls started well and looked like they would secure a final spot, but Menlough/ Skehana were not to give up that easy and this coupled with a few harsh referee decisions which reduced the Barna team to fourteen players for two periods of the game allowed Menlough to secure the win by one point.
The U12 girls had a great win in the first round of the championship over Carraroe. The girls got over to a great start scoring two fine goals before Carraroe got into the game and got their first scores. With Ciara Kilbane and Kaylan Folan controlling the defence they limited Carraroe to few scoring chances and Paola O’Brien was very secure between the posts. Taking a slender lead into the second half the game was much closer and could off went either way but the Barna Forwards of Megan Mulleady and Meave Corcoran took their chances in front of goal assisted by Emma Keady and Samantha Curran. All girls played their part in a great win and Naomh Mhuire will be the next test for the Barna Girls.
Barna under 9’s had a very successful blitz against Uachtar Ard fielding three teams. Training for under 9’s and under 8’s will continue every Wednesday and Saturday until October 30th. Training for under 7’s will continue every Tuesday and Saturday until October 30th.
The club would like to extend it congratulations to senior team selector Mike Lydon and his wife Angela who recently gave birth to twins.
The club extends it sympathies to Noreen Walsh whose mother passed away this week.
