Seniors Capture Clubs First Senior Title

The Barna Seniors had a historic victory last Sunday when they captured the club’s first ever title in the senior ranks, by defeating current County Champions Killererin in the 2010 Senior County League Final at Tuam Stadium. In the first half, Barna opened brightly going three points to no score ahead, however Killererin got to grips with the Barna forwards whilst their own forwards found some extra space to put a number of scores on the board leaving the half time score 5-4 in favour of BarnaIn the second half, Barna again started the better but with ten minutes remaining on the clock, Killererin drew level with Barna. Barna held their nerve, withstanding a number of Killererin attacks which were ably dealt with by the resolute Barna defence. Barna went on to score three more points to cement the victory. The final score was Barna 0-10 to Killerein 0-7

Team captain Eoin McDonagh accepted the cup on behalf of the team. In his speech Eoin thanked the management team of Michael Lydon and Bert Curran and also last year’s team manager Pat Fallon. The club would also like to commend the team and the current management whilst also thanking Pat Fallon for the huge amount of work he done with the team over the years.

Finally, Eoin dedicated the victory to the late Tommy Gannon. Its due to the hard work of Tommy and other founding members of the club, that in less that fifty years the club is now competing for senior titles in Galway football.

The club would like to extend best wishes to senior player Robert Creedon who this week is leaving for Melbourne Australia. We wish him all the best in his travels.
