Barna Ladies finished their season on a high after winning the Westboard Shield final in atrocious weather on Sunday against a very good Killanin side. Both teams deserve great credit for playing what was a very good football game in driving rain and wind. The Barna ladies settled early and registered four points before Killanin got on the scoreboard with two points and with the Barna ladies playing with the wind they needed to register more points before half time . This they did by adding two more points but Killanin with the last kick before half time scored a point to leave the score 0-6 to 0-3 with Barna leading.
The second half showed that Barna were not going to leave this final behind them and their superior fitness showed by adding early points to their score before killanin got a point. The game turned very much Barna’s way when they were awarded a deserved penalty which was dispatched to the back of the net . Even a late goal for Killanin would not affect the outcome of this game and the result of 1-9 to 1-4 was just reward for a long season which began in January. All twenty ladies on the day and Management can take great satisfaction from this result against a very good Killanin team
