It was a very busy October Bank Holiday weekend for Barna GAA Club’s ladies and girls teams on the football field.
The U16 girls played St Michael’s in Westside on Saturday in their first championship game. Both teams were evenly matched in all areas of the pitch and a draw was a fair result which means a rematch this Sunday November 3.
The U14 girls went one better in their championship playoff and secured a place in the final after defeating Dunmore by 4-2 to 2-5 in tough conditions in Claregalway. This group of girls never gave up and after being behind for long periods of the second half they dug deep as a team and secured the win with great scores and even better defending.
The final will be against Grainne Mhaols on Saturday, November 9.
The last of the weekend games was played by the ladies in a play off to reach the league or shield final to be held next Saturday.
Killanin provided tough opposition for the Barna Ladies who were missing a few regular starters due to injury. The ladies stayed with Killanin for the first half but Killanin pushed on in the second half to record the win. The Ladies will now play Milltown in the shield final.
Great credit goes to all the ladies and girls who togged out in the worst of weather and the good news is they will have to do it all over again over the next two weeks.
