Dara Golden’s man of match display in Féile final win

Barna Under 14s captured the County A Féile title on Sunday in Pearse Stadium with a 2-6 to 0-5 points win over Corofin.

Having come through the group stage with wins over Moycullen and St James on Saturday, they faced near neighbours Salthill/Knocknacarra in the semi-final in Furbo on Saturday evening. This proved a tight and tense encounter and Barna prevailed with a narrow 0-4 to 0-3 points win.

In the final, with the aid of a strong wind in the first half, Barna led by 1-4 to 0-1 at the break. Despite growing pressure from Corofin in the second half, Barna added to their tally with a further 1-2 and in the end were worthy winners.

This was a great team and panel performance with Dara Golden getting the Man of the Match Award and Captain Rhys Butler lifting the cup prompting great celebrations from the large Barna support at Pearse Stadium on the day. In his acceptance speech, Rhys thanked the team management, match officials and the Corofin team for an excellent sporting game.
