€60,000 for GAA pitch redevelopment

Barna GAA Club received a massive boost last Friday after it was confirmed that it was successful in its bid to secure Government funding for its pitch redevelopment.

Barna GAA secured €60,000 in the 2015 Sports Capital Programme, which were officially announced on Friday.

The club was notified of the grant by former Galway football manager, John O’Mahony, TD, who visited the pitch in Barna earlier this year to view first-hand what work needed to be carried out.

This latest tranche of funding is in addition to the €52,000 secured in the previous Sports Capital Programme that was unveiled last year.

The total amount of State investment is €112,000, which will go towards the redevelopment of the GAA pitch at Clochscoilte.

The club will need a major fundraising drive to bridge the gap in monies to complete the project.

The work on the redevelopment will be put out to tender before Christmas.

The club committee would like to thank everyone who worked tirelessly on the application for funding and for the political support in delivering it.
