In the opening round of the senior championship Barna were defeated by An Cheatha Rua on a score line of 0-12 0-11. They will now face Cortoon Shamrocks in the back door.
The juniors As are playing Killannin on Saturday evening at 6pm in the opening round of the Junior A football championship. The match will be played in Spidael.
Barna ladies headed to Glinsk for the fourth game in the 2012 intermediate league. Barna and Glinsk have come up through the ranks together over the last few years and every time they meet a great game is always guaranteed. The first half was score for score and at half time Glinsk were a point up. Barna opened the second half with two early goals but it wasn’t long until the sides were level again. The girls showed great heart with every girl giving their all and at full time the Barna girls came away winners by one point. This leaves the ladies of Barna in joint first place with three games to play. This win comes after two great home victories against Mountbellew/Moylough and Glenamaddy/Williamstown. The girls meet Glinsk again in June for the opening round of the championship and they know a hard game lies ahead of them. Well done to the girls involved and the management team of Enda and Sean Flaherty, Hugh Grehan and Michael Gill.
Barna Under 14 footballers had a good win in the League against Salthill in the Prairie on Friday last on a scoreline of 6 – 7 to 3- 13.
Well done to Paddy Friel who came first place in the clubs golf outing in Tuam last Saturday, the next outing is in Balinrobe on June 23rd.
Meanwhile, the Under 13’s were defeated in the City League Shield Final by Oranmore last Sunday which was played in Renmore. This was a high scoring game played in warm conditions and Barna, despite posting a score of 4-9, came off second best on the day.
The numbers drawn in this week lotto draw were 1 – 4 – 12 – 30. There was no jackpot winner.
