Club News : U11 Girls Capture Westboard Title

The Barna U11 girls played in the Westboard “A” final on Friday evening against near neighbours Salthill. Both teams qualified for the final by winning all their group games, and it was set up for a very good game. The large group of parents and spectators were not to be disappointed. The format was 11 a side and 20 minutes per half. The Barna girls started slowly with Salthill quicker to the ball, but this was just a few nerves as all the girls began to take control and before long they were ahead with a well taken goal and two points.

Salthill began to fine the scoring touch and it was set up for a great contest between two even teams. Barna took a slender lead into halftime and were glad of the break to regroup. The second half started with both teams trading scores and the match was on a knife edge with Salthill taking the lead with eight minutes to go. Barna were not going to let the game slip and scored two goals and one point to take a four point lead. Barna girls won on a score line of 4-5 to 3-6.

Both teams deserve great credit for the football game that was played and to Philomena Flaherty for organizing the tournament.

Well done to James Gilmore, Adrian Gannon and Jason Lydons who made the Ted Web City and West Panel.
