The U12 girls played their first game on Wednesday against St Michaels at Barna pitch. With only thirteen players to choose from and the away side playing their fifteen, the girls faced an uphill struggle from the start. The Barna girls started like they had twenty on the pitch and got a goal and a point ahead through Meghan Muleady and Catherine Timon with some great work from Meadhbh Corcoran in Midfield. The away team tried to make use of their numerical advantage but the Barna defence assisted by Afric Malone, Clodagh Carey and Caoimhe Mc Dermott kept them to scoring only two points with some great saves from Paola O'Brien in goals. St Michaels got a goal just before half time to leave the Barna girls going in at half time with a slender lead.
The second half started well for. St Michaels with a goal and a point but they would score no more as the Barna girls of Aoife Lynagh, Rachel Melia kept the ball going forward to Molly Kelly Greally and Blathnaid Jennings to ensure that the goals would come the Barna way . Aoife Curran and Ellie Lydon created plenty of chances and with some very well taken goals from Meghan , the Barna girls ran out comfortable winners. This was a great team performance from everyone in their first game and with a full squad available for the next game should lead to an exciting league campaign for the girls.
