Barna Seniors came a cropper by four points to an ambitious Sathhill
/Knocknacarra team on Saturday evening last in a crucial Division A
League came.
Barna led this game by two points at the break , but had to face a stiff
breeze in the second half as they tried to not only hold out , but
increase the margin. Mind you with 10 minutes remaining, Barna looked as
if they might just do that or at least come away with a draw as both
teams battled the very soft and slippery ground conditions in this very
open, non sheltered Cappagh Road pitch, where scores come few and far
between. There is no doubt Pat Fallon, the non playing Barna Manager and
former Mayo and GAA All Star, has his work cut out for him and his
management team, to battle it out and , stay up in Division A.
The Barna Girls will face Tuam Stars once again , as they qualified to
meet each other in the County League Semifinal in their Division. Barna
had a fine win over Na Pairsaig of Rosmuc and were best served by
Aisling O’Flaherty , Aoife Keaney , Kathy Kilbane, Sinead Heskin , Noamh
Codyre and Rachel Smith. Tuam Stars Under 12 have proven themselves to
be the strongest team in this Under 12 league Division and will not fear
the Barna gilrs at all has they easily accounted for us two weeks ago,
in the championship. Barna will be hoping for a strong battle to restore
any pride, that was lost in this earlier encounter.
Good luck to our Senior Goalkeeper Marty Mannion , who marries Clare
Burns on Augt 23rd.
The Under 17 West Board league will be played in a round robin fashion
on Oct 2nd
